Wound-Care-Specific EHR Developed for National Network of Facilities and Physicians
Posted on Wed, May 11, 2011 - 02:45 pmOn April 28, wound care management services provider Diversified Clinical Services (DCS) and Allscripts announced a collaboration that integrates a wound-care-specific EHR into a clinical productivity solution being developed for use by DCS' network of over 325 hospitals and 2,600 physicians.
DCS’ new i-heal 2.0 includes Allscripts certified EHR and practice management software customized for wound care, as well as wound-care-specific clinical decision support, clinical algorithms and workflow, and outcomes tracking and quality reporting.
DCS said i-heal 2.0 “will allow secure and efficient connectivity between Wound Care Centers in [the company’s network] and virtually all hospital-based EHR systems.” In addition, the system meets meaningful-use provisions for Medicare and Medicaid providers seeking to qualify for EHR incentive payments under the HITECH Act.
DCS CEO Jeff Nelson explained that the integration of the EHR/practice management system with outcomes tracking and benchmarking capabilities will dramatically increase the quantity and quality of information facilities can gather on the effectiveness of different wound-healing approaches.
"This will help us accelerate the pace of improvement in both the quality of care and cost-effectiveness of treating the over seven million Americans suffering from chronic wounds today,” said Nelson. “We chose to partner with Allscripts, not only because of the success they've had enhancing the quality of care and removing costs for 180,000 physicians, but also for their ability to connect with all major inpatient EHR systems used in hospitals nationwide."
Dell will host the Allscripts EHR and Practice Management solution for DCS using a secure datacenter, simplifying the technical configuration required at the Wound Care Centers and ensuring 24/7 enterprise-level support and information security.
